Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

"They went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach." (Mark 1:21).

Jesus was able to teach with authority because He is divine God. The Bible tells us that Jesus never ceased to be God:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1).

Christ is the Word! There is one God who reveals Himself in three ways - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; He emptied Himself and took on a human nature to save those who, by His secret providence, He elected to save from before the foundation of the world. Although the Bible teaches that no man can see God and live I feel this refers to God in His full glory, Jesus said the flesh did not count:

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life." (John 6:63).

God the Holy Spirit works through the Bible in redemption and sanctification of the sinner. The miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit were a gift given through the laying on of the Apostles hands (Acts 19:5,6). This served Christianity for the interem until the Bible was completed at which time prophecy ceased (Revelation 22:18,19). Man cannot comprehend the mysteries of God:

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen." (Romans 11:33-36).

Even though Jesus was and is divine, He also experienced humanity:

"Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead" (Romans 1:3,4).

His divine nature was apparent from birth as He was born of a virgin:

"And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her." (Luke 1:26-38).

Christ would eventually be murdered in order to conquer sin, see Philippians 2:8. After Christ died on the cross, His resurrection would offer further proof that His gospel message was divine. Jesus is the Word; pure, and holy:

"For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure." (John 3:34).

The phrase "He gives the Spirit without measure" refers to Christ being anointed with the Spirit. This is a divine commentary on what the inspired Luke wrote:

"THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD." (Luke 4:18,19).

After Christ's death and resurrection, He ascended into heaven, and in the same manner He will likewise return, see Acts 1:9-11.

In closing, one can know why Christ was able to teach with authority, it is because the Bible tells us that He is God:

"But of the Son He says, "YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM." (Hebrews 1:8).
