"And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples." (Mark 4:33,34).
Jesus spoke in parables because parables are a way that the LORD insures that only His children will respond to the gospel.
The parables of Jesus point to the fact that only by grace can anyone understand the nature of each drop of heavenly doctrine. Outside of God's grace any Biblical knowledge is a result of mans intellect and is not in any way spiritual. In Revelation chapters 2 & 3 when addressing the seven churches, Jesus used the phrase "he that hath an ear, let him hear" seven times, see also Matthew 11:15; 13:9; Mark 4:23; Luke 8:8 and Revelation 13:8-10. Only to those whom God gives the ability to understand will comprehend His true message of salvation:
"Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:13-16).
"But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: "LORD , WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE LORD BEEN REVEALED?" For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, "HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM." These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him." (John 12:37-41), nas.
"What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway." (Romans 11:7-10).
"The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is." (Revelation 17:8).
God is God and He will save according to His good will and divine providence. Why God give grace to some and not others is a divine mystery:
"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:33).
Why God directs the feet of His children and not the entire world is a mystery to us, only God can answer that:
"He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed." (1 Samuel 2:9,10).
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28).
"(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." (Romans 9:11-13).
But we need not worry, for we can be sure that everything which God does is according to His good will; and we know He has authority over all things. We must not question the will of God, for who are we to do so? If the blinded pride of unsaved mankind will not allow their salvation to rest upon God's good will, then judgement by God is both just and honorable.
