"Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:29-31).
(1) The LORD our God is one LORD who manifests Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Father is God:
"Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied." (1 Peter 1:2).
The Father is the fullness of the Godhead invisible:
"And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." (John 1:18).
(2) Jesus is God:
"But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows." (Hebrews 1:8,9).
He is the fullness of the Godhead manifest in the flesh:
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14).
(3) The Holy Spirit is God:
"But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." " (Acts 5:3,4) nas.
The Holy Spirit is the fullness of the Godhead acting upon mankind, convincing them of their sins (John 16:7-11); and guiding them into spiritual truths (John 16:12-15). The Holy Spirit is the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:6-16); the Holy Spirit is the essence of the written Word upon the hearts of those who become saved:
"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." (John 6:63).
The nature of the Godhead is also alluded to in the Old Testment. For example, in Genesis 1, we read:
"God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." (Genesis 1:26).
God is One manifesting Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit; mankind is made in the image of God and man has a nature of soul, body and spirit:
"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, yet one God.
