Proverbs 3:5

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.".

Today we look at a Proverb that is a rebuke against self righteousness. Many times while carrying our crosses, the pious saint will ask why the affliction the LORD has brought upon them. This is a difficult question to answer from one's own understanding and that is why we must begin to understand the Bible by an intensely holy life of prayer and struggle; and this only happens when the LORD is working in someone. Although we live in the flesh, we should be intensely focused on the security of those who trust in the LORD:

"Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday." (Psalm 37:3-5).

Sweeter than honeycomb are the words of our LORD through the dear Psalmist in Psalm 37. Any effort on our part to try and understand or hasten God's timetable and how He works in our lives and the wonderful universe He created is but mere vanity and futility. Perhaps two keywords here in this parable are trust and ironically the little word "all". This is significant because not only must we trust Him, we must do so with all our heart; its all or nothing, there is no room for a lukewarm soul:

"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." (Revelation 3:15-19).

"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love." (Revelation 2:4).
