Here we have an exhortation to morality. As children of God it is very important that we stay as close to the Word of God as possible. The Word of God is Go speaking to us in His infinite power. Proverb 7 also instructs us to stay close to the word for protection from the wiles of the harlot (spiritual adultery):
"Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth. Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death." (Proverbs 7:24-27).
God has given us His Word the Bible to witness, for teaching, for reproof, correction, training and equipment for every good work according to 2 Timothy 3. We must not only stay close to the Word, but we should not be selfish with the good news, we should be eager to share it with others. Christ told us that the heavens and earth will pass away but that His word will live on forever. Let us love the Word with our entire heart, soul with the grace afforded us:
"O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way." (Psalm 119:97-104).
