Today we look at a proverb that is an instruction in wisdom. To love the LORD is to likewise hate all that is evil. This does not mean we are to be self-righteous, because pride here is also condemned. We are to hate evil, but also want the best for the unsaved and for every hurtful way to be removed from us:
"How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. O that You would slay the wicked, O God; Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed. For they speak against You wickedly, And Your enemies take Your name in vain. Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way." - Psalm 139:17-24.
We are to hate evil, but still remain humble and brokenhearted. In turn, we will only be truly humble before our LORD if He is working in an individual to do His will. Therefore lets us strive to put away hate, pride, conceit, evil speaking and all that is contrary to the Word of God. Furthermore, let us stay close to the Bible, the infallible Word of the LORD; let up pray that the LORD gives us thirst for His spiritual water:
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. - John 7:37,38.
