Today we read a proverb that relates to the new birth in the LORD. "he that keepeth instruction" refers to a saved individual; the instructions they keep are found in the Bible, God's Word to mankind. Those who are saved are "in the way of life". The "life" being eternal life in heaven:
"For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life" (Proverbs 6:23).
The latter half of our proverb points to the opposite of a true Christian - someone who is unsaved. Our proverb tells us that "he that refuses reproof erreth". An unsaved individual will not heed the warnings God has given mankind in the Bible, therefore their way of life spiritually is in error. The unsaved of the world may prosper physically, but God tells us this is only temporary; whereas on the other hand, a true child of God who keeps the instructions found in God's Word will prosper for eternity future:
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." (Psalm 1:1-3).
