Today we have a proverb that identifies with the end of the wicked contrasted with that of the righteous. In this lifetime, many who love the LORD often suffer great afflictions, but we must keep in mind as we wait upon the LORD that these are only temporary. Likewise, often many evil people will receive abundant material wealth and happiness in this lifetime, but this too is only temporary. Psalm 73 speaks in great detail about how the wicked are often prosperous and afforded much worldly happiness:
"as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, My steps had almost slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant As I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no pains in their death, And their body is fat. They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like mankind. Therefore pride is their necklace; The garment of violence covers them. Their eye bulges from fatness; The imaginations of their heart run riot. They mock and wickedly speak of oppression; They speak from on high. They have set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue parades through the earth. Therefore his people return to this place, And waters of abundance are drunk by them. They say, " How does God know? And is there knowledge with the Most High?" Behold, these are the wicked; And always at ease, they have increased in wealth." (Psalm 73:2-12) nas.
The lesson we have is that in the end God is just and His good justice will prevail in the end. Although His children are often allowed to suffer in obedience, we have promises from our LORD whose name is faithful and true that He will not abandon or forsake His people altogether. The promise God's children have is that of eternal life in the highest bliss for eternity future where there will be no more sorrow or sin as these type of things will have all been finally defeated.
"Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever." (Psalm 37:27-29).
