Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

Proverbs 12:15

"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.".

Today we look at a proverb that teaches us about self-righteousness. As a believer grows in Christ, they must continually strive to keep the doctrines they hold as faithful to the Word of God as possible. It is a never ending task that we continually study the Bible and compare scripture with scripture. The Bible itelf tells us this in many places; also in Proverbs we read that often some are so convinced they are right that pride will not allow them to correct their errors and this in turn leads to spiritual death: "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Proverbs 14:12).

A balance must always be sought whereby we hold to the truth and do not waiver and be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine and also we must as well make sure that there are no verses we are avoiding in our search for truth. The Bible alone is God's source for truth to us, so we should pray for wisdom that the LORD would guide us into truth through the Holy Spirit working through God's Word. Growing in the grace and truth that is Christ is a never end task for the true child of God while here on earth. Paul likewise speaks to this in his exhortation in the closing chapter of 2 Corinthians; there we read:

"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates." (2 Corinthians 13:5,6).
