Today we read a proverb that instructs us about companionship. In the Bible a fool typifies an unsaved individual. If we spend much time around the unsaved, we will not discern words of knowledge; spiritual knowledge, being in view. In 2 John we are given this instruction:
"If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds" (2 John 10,11).
Christian friendship is important. As brethren in Christ, we sharpen and edify one another in the truth of the Word. On the other hand, we can only witness to those who reject Christ and ridicule the gospel to a certain point; if we go too far we also may begin violating to the Word of God. Proverbs 23 teaches:
"Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words." (Proverbs 23:9).
