Today we look at a proverb with a literal and spiritual application. That is the nature of proverbs or parables which are earthly stories with a heavenly meaning. As believers when we go into all the world with the gospel, we feed the spiritually poor. In Matthew 25 we read:
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me." (Matthew 25:40-45).
As children of God we were made in His image and therefore if He has saved us and is working in us our earnest desire will be to do His good will. We will share freely as our LORD has blessed us both physically and spiritually. There is also much abundant joy that comes with sharing; it is opposite greed. That is why if He has saved us from the womb and confirmed this in our life, we will gladly seek to share with the physically and spiritually poor:
"Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?" (Job 31:15).
