Proverbs 15:8

"The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.".

Today we look at a proverb that contrasts the unsaved with a true child of God. A sacrifice is an outward sign pointing to an inward grace; therefore we realize the sacrifice of the wicked identifies with those who come with false gospels. Those who bring a false gospel are even worse than those who have no gospel because blatantly false gospels are as the proverb says: an abomination to our LORD. This teaching is also expressed in Ecclesiastes where we read:

"Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil." (Ecclesiastes 5:1).

The second half of the proverb offers abundant hope to true believers. Here we are taught that the prayers of the upright are a delight to our LORD. This is why prayer is so important and we must continue steadfast in it, without ceasing. If God delights in the prayers of the upright, He will surely hear them:

"The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous." (Proverbs 15:29).
