Here we look at a proverb that contrasts false gospels with the true gospel. The word "folly" points to a false gospel, as a "fool" is a spiritual picture of the unsaved in the Bible. The unsaved will take joy in false gospels that are man made and appealin to the flesh but are not at all from God. Many false gospels are suited to what certain individuals enjoy, but this is altogether deceit and is not from God:
"The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit." (Proverbs 14:8).
The second part of this proverb is pointing to a true child of God. Those who by the mercy of the LORD receive true spiritual understanding of the mysteries of the gospel are those who walk upright and in truth. A true child of God will show evidence of redemption by their fruits; this serves as witness that Christ is working in them to will and do of His good pleasue. Ephesians 5 expouns on this in detail:
"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is." (Ephesians 5:15-,16).
