Here we have a proverb that speaks to the great Bible teaching of humility. Being humble is a very, very important part of one identifying themselves with Christ and it is a subject that the Bible over and over again admonishes us to obey through Christ. Calvary was the ultimate lesson in humility that we must look to. In Psalm 24 we read:
"O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." (Psalm 34:3-7).
So we see the rewards of being humble are extremely great in a spiritual sense. This all sounds easy but we live in a fleshly body that often desires sin and pride so at times humility may seem difficult, but through Christ it is definately something that grows upon us as we do in Him. Dear reader, why not take this opportunity to strive to be more humble in your life? Humble yourself and He will lift you up!:
"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." (James 4:6-10).
