Today we look at a Proverb that contrasts the upright and the wicked. The contrast is between a loving brother and a slanderer. Covering a transgression or showing forgiveness is a very essential part of the Christian life. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Peter wrote thus in his first epistle:
"Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.". (1 Peter 4:8).
The latter part of todays proverb tells us that a slanderer only seeks to sow discord and the result is often the seperation of good friends. Those who slander others are perverse and in no way holy. This is why we must choose our words very carefully as we go into all the world as ambassadors for Christ. There must be no end to our holiness, forgiveness and attempts to try and live like our Saviour Jesus:
"An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends." (Proverbs 16:27,28).
