Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

Proverbs 17:22

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones."

Here we read a proverb that identifies with salvation. A heart that is truly happy is not happy with the things of the world. As a matter of fact, often believers suffer many afflictions every day as they take up their cross and follow Jesus. The proverb here is speaking about those who are spiritually happy; those who are the saved in Christ:

"Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart." - Psalm 32:7-11

Psalm 32 likewise speaks of the happiness a child of God experiences in knowing they are saved and secure in the LORD Jesus. On the other hand, a person can live a seemingly happy life as they indulge themselves in seeing how much they can get out of the world for their own benefit. This is only temporary infatuation and not true happiness as all will die one day and if one dies with no Saviour, all in life will be for naught. Therefore. let us be glad in our LORD and give thanks to His holy name!

"Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness." - Psalm 97:12.
