Here we have a description of an unsaved person. In the Bible "a fool" in a spiritual sense is an individual who is an unbeliever; they do not have the true gospel, or they have no gospel at all. An unbeliever will have no desire for spiritual truths. This is further expounded upon throughout the Bible in places such as 1 Corinthians 1, where God through the inspired pen of Paul declares:
"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." - 1 Corinthians 1:18-31.
Spiritual fools have no faith in God. Their delight is in revealing what they believe is right in their own minds, this is extemely dangerous and serious because they are speaking from a human mind tainted by sin and not looking to the perfect goodness, holiness and spiritual nature of the true gospel. God is pure, Holy Spirit and through Him alone is there any hope of mercy for our spiritual life and soul. In Isaiah we are taught that our minds and thoughts are not like the LORD's, but spiritual wisdom can be obtained, not through the human mind, but through the gift of Christ through the holy written Word, the Bible:
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." - Isaiah 55:6-11.
