Proverbs 20:22

"Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.".

Today we read a proverb that identifies with the life and conduct of a Christian. As a child of God we are not to attempt to repay any evil which has been done to us. The Bible tells us that God will take care of that in His own way, manner and timeframe. God will deal with everyone with perfect justice, we need only patiently and quietly wait upon Him:

"Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." (Psalm 27:11-14).

Throughout God's Word, over and over we are taught to wait upon the LORD to gain spiritual strength. At times this may not be so easy to do and a little anxiety sets in. However, we must rest all our anxieties in the arms of Jesus, fixing our eyes upon Him with the faith and hope of His coming and bringing the final victory of good over evil. Retribution is altogether in Him and surely there can be no fairer to judge:

"Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:17-21).
