Today we look at a proverb that relates to doing God's will. It is very important to the LORD that we do His will and the mystery of providence tells us that we will only do His will if He is working in us. This is the nature of salvation, that it is pleasing to God. The importence of obedience is found in many places throughout God's word:
"And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams." (1 Samuel 15:22).
This same teaching is found in Hosea 6:6. Jesus quoted this both in Matthew 9:13 & 12:7. The lesson speaks for itself; we must strivr to do God's will. This is what Jesus desires, mercy:
"But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Matthew 9:12,13).
