Here we read a proverb that is a spiritual picture of departing from false worship. The wilderness here is a type or spiritual portrait of bringing the gospel away from the churches just as John the Baptist prepared the way for the earthly coming of Christ by preaching away from the organized religion orchastrated by the Sanhederin. This wilderness is also prophecied in Revelation 12. Note there we read
"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea" - Matthew 3:1.
"And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days." - Revelation 12:6.
"And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent." - Revelation 12:14.
The contentious and angry woman is a spiritual picture of the apostate church. The church not being the true bride of Christ which consists of all God's elect children, rather, the "holy" whore of Babylon which we read of in Revelation 17 & 18 among other places. God will bring judgement upon all false worship and God's judgement is righteous and in goodness. Paul speaks to this when under inspiration he wrote:
"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath" - Romans 2:4-8.
