Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

Proverbs 27:9

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

Today we look at a proverb that is pointing to Christ. The ointment spoken of is a spiritual portrait of the anointing from the Holy Spirit we receive that accompanies salvation as children God. This makes us: "kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" as the inspired John testifies to us in Revelation 1:6. Likewise in Psalm 23 we read:

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." (Psalm 23:4,5).

The ointment and perfume we rejoice in as believers is the fragrance of the LORD Jesus. In Him alone is salvation; there is no place else to turn, no where else one can go; In Him alone is truth and the promise of eternal life to His people. We are nothing without Him; to Him we owe everything. Let us continually fix our eyes on Jesus, to love Him, do His will and shine as His lights in a troubled world:

Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. - Song of Solomon 1:3.
