Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

Proverbs 29:23

"A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit."

Today we briefly examine a proverb that warns and instructs us about pride and humility. Pride is an extremely grievious sin; it was the downfall of satan and the very essence of disobedience to God. As Christians, the only reason we are enlighted toward spiritual truths is because God has chosen to teveal them. We are in no way righteous of ourselves by any means, neither should we be self-righteous:

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes." (Romans 3:10-18).

No one becomes righteous by their own free will. It is only because of God drawing and individual which makes one humble. God will save whom He chooses by His own righteous judgement which we as mortal humans cannot understand. There are many, many mysteries in the Bible, but we do know if we by grace cry to God with a heart that is truly broken and contrite, He will not despise it according to Psalm 51:17; therefore dear reader should you have ears to hear, come before Him in prayer and supplication with a brokenheart and much humility:

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." (James 4:4-10).
