Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

Proverbs 30:5

"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him."

Here we read a proverb that instructs us about the Word of God. Every Word or Words of God that has been revealed to mankind today is found in the Holy Bible; complete, alone, and in its entirety. God speaks to mankind today through His written words found in the Bible of which He is the author through inspired writers. God's Word is pure; that means the Bible contains no errors whatsoever:

"For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him. The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted." (Psalm 12:5-8).

The LORD is also a shield to them that by His mercy and grace put their faith in Him. It is only by grace that one will trust in Him as surely as He loved Jacob and hated Esau even before birth. Many mysteries of providence are involved with grace and why His children will come to Christ unless the Father draws them; but knowing this let us glory in salvation and His promises so as to make Him a shield and our strong tower to which we run. We read similar exhortations in verses such as these:

"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies." (Psalm 18:2,3)

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." (Proverbs 18:10).
