Quiet Earth Fellowservants of Christ

Song of Solomon 8:13,14

"Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it. Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices."

Here in the closing verses of the Song of Solomon we have a parable that points to the second coming of Christ. The Gardener refers to Christ. Adam was the first gardener and Christ was mistaken for a Gardener the morning He arose from the dead. We read these parallels in the following verses:

"The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven." (1 Corinthians 15:47).

"Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master." (John 20:15,16).

"For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody." (Isaiah 51:3).

"And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not." (Isaiah 58:11).

"For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations." (Isaiah 61:11).

The mountain of spices is a spiritual portrait of Christ coming in glory. In Revelation 22:20, the next to the last verse of the Bible, Christ tells us that He is coming quickly. Believers hasten to hear His voice. Let us look to the mountain of spices from which comes our help as Psalm 121 declares; and let us comfort each other as we await the day of His coming:

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." - 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18.
